You are Invited to the 2020 Assembly REC Luncheon!

I would like to personally invite you to attend our Annual Florida ARECS Luncheon held during Assembly on Friday, May 15, 2020 at 12pm.  The Florida ARECS Luncheon is normally held for local REC leaders to meet with the Florida ARECS Board to discuss issues and share information on new developments.  This year the Florida ARECS Board would like to welcome ALL REC members and those interested in becoming REC members for a relaxing meal and a chance to engage with other REC members.  We will present a short program to update attendees on our major accomplishments, plans going forward and new resources available to help you network and market your practice.

You can register for the Luncheon at the same time you register for Fund Assembly.  Just go to https://www.thefund.com/assembly to sign-up.

Legal Summit for the Miami Association of Realtors®

One of our primary objectives has been to create opportunities for our member attorneys to promote themselves to the Realtor® community.  One of the most effective ways we accomplish this is through education.  For years, some Real Estate Councils have been presenting all-day seminars called Law Symposiums or Legal Summits.   It began with Central Florida (CFREAC) over 25 years ago and has grown to include Broward and Palm Beach.  This year we will introduce our first events in Miami and the Treasure Coast.  If you are in the South Florida area, you will not want to miss our Inaugural Legal Summit for the Miami Association of Realtors® on March 6th at the Hard Rock in Hollywood.

Real Estate Councils & RPPTL

The Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of The Florida Bar (RPPTL) Executive Council held their most recent meeting in Tampa at the end of January.  Fund General Counsel Melissa Murphy and Fund Member/Florida ARECS Board Member Nishad Khan presented Committee Sponsor remarks at the Residential Real Estate and Industry Liaison Committee (RREIL) meeting.  Melissa Murphy opened by explaining how The Fund got behind the RECs as a mechanism for promoting real estate attorneys in a way that involved them – as opposed to The Fund simply speaking on their behalf.

Mr. Khan shared how joining the local REC changed his career.

“I started my practice at the beginning of the real estate crash. The industry was thrown into a world of short sales, modifications and foreclosures and no one knew how to react. The Central Florida Real Estate Attorneys’ Council (CFREAC) was instrumental in gathering the troops to provide the public, who was even more confused, with valuable information regarding the different programs that were packaged in fun acronyms such as MERS, MARS, HAFA and HAMP. I remember the council, with the help of FUND staff, setting up full day workshops for the public to meet with real estate attorneys. These were trying times, and I remember tables set up in a gymnasium with many worried families waiting all night to speak to an attorney. This was amazing to me. An organization that promotes my profession, but also figures out a way to give back to the community and really show the importance of a real estate attorney.

That introduction developed yet another passion of mine, speaking, which then allowed me to speak at our Legal Summit and eventually led the path to become an instructor at Florida Realtors®. Looking back now, CFREAC helped me discover a passion, which eventually allowed me to market my firm.”
