May & June - Message from the Board

Florida ARECS was created to support and promote real estate attorneys and our board is committed to delivering tangible solutions for our Strategic Priorities:

  • Leadership Development
  • Membership Development
  • Promote Real Estate Attorneys
  • Promote Attorney/Realtor® Relations
  • Build Relationships with Key Industry Organizations
  • Support Success of Local RECs and their Members

While we are focused on all our priorities, today we would like to talk to you about three of them.

Leadership Development

Recruiting and retaining strong effective leaders is a challenge for any organization. It is even more of a challenge for volunteer organizations like real estate councils. To address this need Florida ARECS is hosting its first Leadership Forum on May 5th, preceding the start of Fund Assembly in Orlando. Our objectives for this event are to engage local REC leaders and provide them with tools to help them run their organizations more easily and effectively.

Promote Attorney/Realtor® Relations

Florida ARECS accomplishes this goal two ways. First, we are working with Florida Realtors® at the state level to build awareness of the RECs and the value their attorney members bring to real estate transactions. As part of this effort, Florida ARECS will host a booth at the 2016 Florida Realtors® Convention Trade Show & Expo to be held at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando in August. There we will have the unique opportunity to network with over 3,000 Realtors® and REC member attorneys are invited to participate! Please contact the REC Relations Manager Rene' Rutan at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are interested.

Secondly, we have developed resources, including the Realtor Education Library, which RECs and their members can use at the local level to reach out to Realtor® boards and brokerages. It includes ready-to-use programs on the CFPB Closing Disclosure, FRBAR Contract, FIRPTA, Title Insurance and more. You can pick-up a complete list at the Florida ARECS booth at the 2016 Fund Assembly Expo & Tech Center or view it online at

Promote Real Estate Attorneys

Today just 44% of Florida closings are conducted by a real estate attorney. We practice in a marketplace where many consumers and Realtors® don't think they need a real estate attorney. Florida ARECS is currently responding to this challenge on two fronts. First, with the assistance of The Fund, we built a consolidated REC website to provide education and tools to consumers and Realtors®. Second, we launched a social media campaign. Social media provides us the ability to share our message of the importance of involving an attorney in real estate transactions to hundreds of thousands of Realtors® and consumers. Help Florida ARECS spread this message by being a part of our social media campaign.
