Speaking of Law Symposiums, the Attorneys’ Real Estate Council of Palm Beach County and the Broward Attorneys’ Real Estate Councils’ Annual Law Symposiums for the Realtors® of Broward | Palm Beaches | St. Lucie, were planned for this summer but like so many live events, have been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

I am honored to serve as the new President of the Attorneys’ Real Estate Councils of Florida and look forward to picking up where my predecessor left off. Pat Nugent did an incredible job as President for the past two years and we would not be where we are without her. Thank you Pat!

The Broward REC continues to thrive despite the scourge of Covid-19! They are hosting Open Forums via ZOOM. The Forums, which are now held once per week, provide an opportunity for BAREC Members to connect and discuss the issues of the day. In addition, BAREC is presenting Ask an Attorney, live Q&A panel discussions every Monday morning for their local Realtor® association.

The Volusia Real Property Council welcomed Jay St. Lawrence, Fund Legal Education Attorney to their meeting on March 5th where he presented Digital Closings & Remote Online Notarization for a packed house of over fifty members.

On March 6th, we held one of our biggest events ever! Florida ARECS’ Inaugural Legal Summit for the Miami Association of Realtors® was held at the iconic Hard Rock in Hollywood.

May 2020 Board Meeting: The Florida ARECS Board of Directors held its second quarter Board Meeting on May 21st via conference call. We always look forward to this meeting because it is typically held the day before Assembly starts so we all get the chance to see each other, catch up and enjoy the energy of Fund Assembly.

You are Invited to the Fund Assembly REC Luncheon! I would like to personally invite you to attend our Annual Florida ARECS Luncheon held during Assembly on Friday, May 15, 2020 at 12pm. The Florida ARECS Luncheon is normally held for local REC leaders to meet with the Florida ARECS Board to discuss issues and share information on new developments.

On January 28th, members of the Attorneys’ Real Estate Council of Miami-Dade County and the North Dade & Beaches Real Estate Council gathered for their annual joint REC meeting. The event offers a unique opportunity for real estate attorneys from across the county to get together. Their program featured Manuel Farach, Esq. of McGlinchey Stafford, who presented his Real Property Case Law Update & It’s Impact on Your Practice.

NEW! WORKPLACE REAL ESTATE EDUCATION PROGRAM for Consumers.
Both The Fund and Florida ARECS have been successful at reaching real estate agents through both education and traditional advertising. However, the public can be more difficult to reach. Social media is effective, but we are looking for a more personal interaction between real estate attorneys and the public. The RECs held successful homeowner workshops during the Great Recession as Nishad Khan referred to in his remarks at the RPPTL meeting however, in the absence of an economic catastrophe, we need a new way to reach people on a personal level.

On Saturday, November 2nd, members of the Broward Attorneys’ Real Estate Council (BAREC) participated in the Sallarulo 5k Race for Champions in support of Special Olympics Florida.

On November 7th, Fund Affiliate & Real Estate Council Relations Manager Rene’ Rutan presented an update on Florida ARECS’ activities to the Residential Real Estate and Industry Liaison (RREIL) Committee during the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section’s (RPPTL) meeting in Miami.

Each day I walk in my office and am reminded how challenging our job as real estate attorneys is becoming. I am fortunate to be surrounded by a fabulous team including my partner and the dedicated staff who have been with us for years.
New Fund Members & Real Estate Councils
Beginning this month, new Fund Members who complete New Member Training will receive an invitation from The Fund to join their local Real Estate Council. The Fund believes that participation in a Real Estate Council provides young attorneys with an excellent opportunity to meet their peers and grow as professionals.
